“This mix is about memories. Memories of my mother and childhood spent in Norway and India. Waking up in the dark winter mornings making my packed lunch, coming back from school in darkness. Memories of time spent in Delhi with my cousins, sat on the street in the heat because the power went off. Teaching them norwegian songs to make the time pass by. Memories of my mother sharing her stories from when she lived in a small sami town of 200 people called Birtavarre in the arctic circle. Surviving the language barrier and isolation she faced working as a nurse up north. The mix includes some of my favorite ambient and electronic nordic artists, who beautifully channel the nordic atmosphere and darkness, mixed with clashes of warmth and rhythm. Just like the summers we spent in India, escaping the coldness of the north. The mix starts with a popular sami song by Norwegian artist Mari Boine and ends on an Indian song my mother loved to sing to us as kids. The chorus says “my shoes are Japanese, my pants are British, my hat is russian but still my heart is Indian”
