Silenced Voices

I wrote this song specifically for Canada Day.

My heart broke when I heard about the discovery of 215 children in unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Residential School, followed shortly thereafter by the discovery of 750 children in unmarked graves at the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan. Then, yesterday, 182 more children were discovered in unmarked graves at the former St. Eugene’s Mission School near Cranbrook.

It’s hard to capture the enormity of the experiences in the residential schools in a mere 3 minutes, and I can’t even come close to knowing how it feels. This song represents only a small aspect of it. I dedicate this song to the children.
